By Thomas Kostigen
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (MarketWatch) — In the immortal words of Dean Vernon Wormer in the film “Animal House:” “Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.” And it wont make you rich either.

Hear from an Olympian

Last night, I attended an event featuring Henry Marsh as the keynote speaker. According to his website, Marsh is “one of the most prolific distant runners in US history”. While his Olympic accomplishments are impressive, Marsh’s secrets for success are priceless.

Here’s what Marsh shared – his M.A.P. strategy:

  • M = Mentor – Everyone needs a mentor.
  • A = Ability – Find your unique talent and become the best you be (“never better”).
  • P = Passion – You need to be passionate about what you’re doing.

Sound familiar? Sure does. This is just another way to describe elements of my “Secrets to Wealth and Success” article.

The Road to Riches

According to Kiyosaki and many other wealth gurus, the wealthiest people in America started their own business.  If you haven’t noticed yet, the next wave for Internet opportunities is upon us.  You may have even already heard the catchy buzzwords such as Web 2.0, social networking, etc.

Let’s take this one step further.  Behind all of these “disruptors” and newly emerging services are real business opportunities.  Think about the new forms of communication that are emerging such as telepresence and voice over IP (making calls on the Internet at a reduced cost).  Think about what this is doing to traditional businesses as well as the start up companies that have the foresight to spot incredible business opportunities.

There is no doubt in my mind, we will witness many more millionaires in the coming years (acquisitions, tech IPOs, etc.).  With this in mind, a friend and I started a new online venture called PopDigerati.com little over two weeks ago.  For now, I can only best describe it as part “People” magazine for the People of the Net and part tabloid trash tech news.

Behind the entertainment value and social experiment is a real business concept.  If I had to do this according to the conventional rules of traditional media, I’d fail.  Is this venture my sole path to financial freedom?  Not really because my plan all along has been to secure multiple income streams and diversify across numerous investment opportunities in this new millennium.
In any case, feel free to take a peek at this new site.  I would love nothing more than to inspire you to pursue your own passion and pursuit of financial freedom.  Remember the secret of my last article–mind and action.
Here’s to your wealth and success!

The Secret to Wealth and Success

I’ve read a number of books and attended quite a few seminars on this topic.  You know what I’ve concluded?  Success principles are universal and consistent.  It doesn’t matter if you’ve read Napoleon Hill, Robert Kiyosaki or attended seminars by T. Harv Eker and Loral Langemeier.  There are just two things that really matter if you want to become successful and wealth:

  1. Mind: The mind is our most powerful asset.  It can either help us tremendously or hinder us.  Too often people let fear, uncertainty, and doubt creep in.  How does one expect to be successful if one does not believe in oneself?  In contrast, others are positive, energetic, and confident.  They don’t let setbacks or negativity deter them; they believe they can do anything and set goals for themselves.
  2. Act: If getting into the right mindset is key, the next step is to act.  It’s one thing to set a goal (i.e., become wealthy).  What are you doing about that goal?  If you’re not taking action that is consistent with your desire and goal, then how do you expect to become that which you believe?

Is that it?  Yes.  All other details fall to the wayside unless you have the right mindset and take action.

Here’s to your wealth and success!
